The town of Berwick-upon-Tweed has frequently changed hands between the English and the Scots. For the last five hundred years though it has been situated in the county of Northumberland in England. However, the county of Berwickshire lies over the border in Scotland.
New York and Boston lie only a few miles apart in Lincolnshire, England.

Thanks for that. I worked in Kansas City for a while but hasdn't really grasped that it was in Missouri. A couple of other things about KC : it was actually founded by the Mormons but they fell out with the other residents and were asked to leave en-masse in 1833. Kansas comes from the name of a local Indian tribe Kanza (also called the Kaw).
Round here in Wiltshire we have two villages called Scotland and Ireland. The sign posts often go missing.
