No More Internet Access At Home

by lee954 @ 29 Apr. 2008 - 12:46:50

My computer can't be repaired, and since I can't really afford to buy a new one I've had to terminate my broadband contract with BT.

BT initially said that I was tied in to my contract until September and so would be charged an extra £120 on my next bill. The customer services person was argiung that I had taken on a new contract last September - I disagreed though and claimed that the terms and conditions of my existing contract were changed by the company and this does not mean that I had actually signed a new contract...with a cancellation penalty.

Anyhow, I complained and asked to speak to someone in charge; they listened to a recording of the original phonecall and agreed that I was still on my original contract and only need give a month's notice. I'll not know what they've done until my next bill though.

So...I'll have to blog from the library now - I'm in here most days though.

Are you sure it can't be fixed?

It seems so. There's nothing more my friend's able to do, and I'm just sick of all the complications. In the future, when I've saved up a bit, and it's possible to just buy a computer that plugs straight into the internet without all the faffing about of dealing with different internet providers all offering complicated tariffs and requiring that you install their individual software, I should like to get back online.

I hope you keep posting, the library is where i started out it's not the best but it does.

I remember computers that just worked when they were plugged in. I built one in 1978...

We'll see you when you are in the library, then?

Somebody told us at a meeting last night about something with a strange name for mobile phone users which you just plug in and costs a flat £10 per month - apparently it's slower than broadband, but you can use it anywhere. No use for our village though where there is no signal. Was it a dongle?

That's a shame Lee..i'm sure you'll miss it.
The library is very good though as my brother uses their internet services daily.
