June 21st, the longest day of the year; Midsummer's Day, and here in Doncaster it's miserably dark and cold.
On the news this morning I heard two reports about people utilising the long hours of daylight though; a sponsored cycle ride, starting from John o'Groats at dawn and hoping to reach Land's End before nightfall; and the re-establishing of a speedboat race circumnavigating the island of Great Britain.
