There were two newsreaders on BBC News 24 on Tuesday night who didn't recognise the symbol/flag of Yorkshire - the white rose...I should be appalled, but I'm not...it's typical of the BBC.

When I was a child I had a Girl Guide tea towel with all the county symbols as used on guide badges. Some were quite obscure in their meaning and origin, but I would have thought that anyone would at the very least have heard of the Wars of the Roses (though they may, of course, think that it is a Hollywood film about domestic disharmony) and the symbolism of the white and red roses.
